2008-09 BUDGET HIGHLIGHTS: WHAT IS THERE FOR INVESTORS ?

Lilongwe, 05 June 2008 -Continuing with its various efforts to create a conducive and profitable business environment, Malawi Government has instituted new tax measures. The measures, disclosed in the budget statement by Finance Minister honourabe Goodall Gondwe in parliament on 23rd May 2008 are expected to encourage more investment especially in agriculture.Read more

 

 

MALAWI-CHINESE TIES ON A SOUND FOOTING

Lilongwe, 5 June 2008 -Hot on the heels of establishing diplomatic relations with mainland China, a business delegation comprising of government officials and representatives of Chinese companies visited Malawi from 13 – 16 May this year to explore investment and trade opportunties. The delegation held a series of meetings with private sector companies as well as government official.Read more

 

 

MIPA APPROVES 28 COMPANIES

Blantyre, 08 May 2008 -MIPA approved a total of 28 new companies between January and March 2008. The total pledged investment for the 28 companies is USD 21,728,056.00. During the same period last year, a total of 16 new companies with a total pledged investment worth US$8.92million was registered.Read more

This is in support of the government's Growth and Development Startegy..

>Involvement in the National Investment Policy review, which once completed will create a more favorable environment for investment.     

>Construction of state-of-the-art factory shells with the aim of attracting both foreign and domestic investors engaged in the production ofgoods.   

>Implementation of the Growing Sustainable Business (GSB) programme with support from the UNDP aimed at attracting pro-poor investment and business to Malawi, thereby bringing new employment opportunities and needed goods and services to the poor. Read more
