The tourism sector in Malawi continues to grow amidst global challenges such as high cost of travel, and local problems such as inadequate tourist facilities. Nonetheless, the potential for growth in tourism is enormous, especially in eco tourism Prospective investors may invest in some of Malawi’s unique areas of natural beauty around Lake Malawi, Mulanje mountain slopes, Nyika slopes and protected areas such as national parks and forest reserves, cultural and historical sites such as missionary graves and slave trade villages Specific investment projects include construction of hotels, lodges and camps.

Land & Lake Safari is seeking a joint venture partner to build, develop and run a tourist lodge in Lilongwe, within the protected confines of the Lilongwe Nature Sanctuary. This is one of the tourism projects that government is working with the private sector under a concessionary agreement.


 Some areas earmarked for tourism development:

Northern Region: Rumphi Nyika Plateau Chisanga Falls; Nkhata Bay-Chintcheche

Central Region: Nkhotakota Hot Springs, Nkhotakota Rain Forest Game reserve, Deza Rain Forest – Eco-Lodge

Southern Region: Mulanje Likhubula Dam, Game Lodge within the Liwonde National Park, Zomba Plateau – Williams Falls, Mangochi: Cape Maclear, Nsanje: Majete Game reserve
